Highlights, Holidays, and Fun Facts
October means costumes, candy, and a touch of spooky fun—but did you know Halloween’s origins go back more than 2,000 years? The holiday began as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off wandering spirits. This also marked the end of the harvest and beginning of winter. Today, it’s one of the most celebrated traditions around the world, marking the highlight of fall for kids and adults alike.
Let’s take a look at what else is in store this month:
World Teachers’ Day (10/5)—A huge shout-out to all the educators who inspire us. Where would we be without you?
Indigenous Peoples’ Day (10/13)—Honoring the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
National Dessert Day (10/14)—Go on, here's your excuse.
- National Boss’s Day (10/16)—Take a moment to thank the leaders who guide and support you.
Halloween (10/31)—Be safe and have some good, scary fun!
