Upcoming: Louisville Commencement Weekend
In the heart of Kentucky, where the locals pronounce it Loo-a-vul, WGU is gearing up to celebrate 1,160 amazing graduates at this weekend’s WGU Louisville Commencement.
We can’t wait to cheer on these Night Owls as they walk across the stage—representing 43 states and U.S. territories, with graduates ranging in age from 19 to 74. Fun fact: 19% of this class hails from Indiana, and one grad traveled more than 3,000 miles from Alaska!
This special weekend includes:
- Alumni Celebration—Friday, June 6, at Churchill Downs
- Commencement—Saturday, June 7, at KFC Yum! Center
Check out the Louisville Commencement Program to learn more fun facts and celebrate this inspiring class.

Highlights, Holidays, and Fun Facts
We have a lot to celebrate and reflect on this month! Among many things, June is Pride Month, PTSD Awareness Month, and Men's Mental Health Month. Let’s be good neighbors and spread care and kindness this June.
Let’s take a look at what else is in store:
- National Cheese Day (June 4)–Arguably the most important day? If you missed Cheese Day, you can make up for it on the 22nd for National Onion Rings Day.
- National Higher Education Day (June 6)–This day is for you, our amazing WGU Night Owls.
- Flag Day (June 14)–Honoring the adoption of the U.S. flag in 1777.
- Father’s Day (June 16)–Shout-out to all the amazing dads!
- First Day of Summer (June 20)–Time to soak up the sun and set new goals—or relax and enjoy a vacation.
- Go Skateboarding Day (June 21)–Speaking of summer fun, how about whipping out those old wheels and doing some tricks?

This month, we recognize Juneteenth—a time to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S. and to reflect on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equity, and opportunity. At WGU, we remain committed to creating pathways to equitable education and opportunity for all. We invite our Night Owl community to join us in honoring this day in U.S. history.

WGU Recognized as an “Opportunity University”
At WGU, we remain committed to creating pathways to equitable education and opportunity for all. That mission was recently honored with national recognition—WGU was named an Opportunity College and University in the new Carnegie Student Access and Earnings Classification.
This designation recognizes institutions that deliver both education access and long-term economic value to students. WGU is proud to stand among those fostering higher access and higher earnings, helping close equity gaps, and driving social and economic mobility. Notably:
- 42% of WGU students are first-generation degree seekers or from underserved backgrounds.
- WGU grads saw an average $22K income increase within two years of graduation (2023 Harris Poll).
Read more about it and what it means for Night Owls everywhere.
